GraphicsMedia.net workshop in Berlin, Germany

On September 3 and 4, GraphicsMedia.net held its annual workshop, this time at the premises of its member Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institut (HHI) in Berlin. 19 junior and senior researchers and other high-ranking officials from all GraphicsMedia.net members except Mivtech participated in the event.

Like in the previous year's edition, the workshop was splitted into 3 blocks. In a preparatory session on the morning of day 1, the participating researchers presented their ongoing research activities and projects. After that they were briefed by GraphicsMedia.net's Managing Director, Jürgen Bund, on upcoming and open H2020 calls for proposals as well as other funding opportunities that match the network members' profile. Last but not least, Prof. Jürgen Döllner from Hasso-Plattner-Institut (HPI) in Potsdam talked about his experience with the first series of GraphicsMedia.net Research Retreats, specifically with regard to "PhD acceleration".

During the afternoon the researchers were split into 2 working groups, in order to discuss and develop joint project proposal ideas and initiatives that would match one or more of the calls that were presented in the moring. The day terminated with tapas and some beer and wine at a very nice Spanish restaurant.

On the morning of day 2 both groups presented their ideas in the plenary session. In total, 10 project initiatives for H2020 projects had been developed, plus a series of smaller projects for non-H2020 funding programmes. This represents a significant increase over the results of last years' workshop in which 6 project ideas had been produced, and reflects the satisfaction and motivation of the participating researchers to make use of the excellence that is available in the network.

It was also decided to realize the 2019 edition of the workshop already in May, and to, optionally, invite representatives from selected external entities. Furthermore, another GraphicsMedia.net Research Retreat with a different shape was decided: a seminar in which the participants will present their ongoing R&D, grouped around a specific topic to be identified. The results will then be compiled and published as GraphicsMedia.net Proceedings.
