DESIREE: improvement of the research and treatment for breast cancer

Desiree Project, an international cutting-edge initiative for the improvement of the research and treatment for breast cancer, has started the next phase with meetings in Valencia, where two of the participants of the work groups come from: ERESA and Sistemas Genómicos. Both entities were hosts for this new consortium-meeting, formed by hospitals, universities and research centres of five countries. member Vicomtech is the coordinator for this project, and Fundacion Onkologikoa is a participant of it.

The aim of this project, that entered its second development year, is to supply specialists with a fast and intuitive system for medical decision support in the treatment of breast cancer. This system will implement a specific computing platform that will formalize knowledge of the main clinical guides, create new content form previously gathered data, and interrelate a patient’s data with previously stored cases. Once this is done, collected data-sets will be processed and presented by the system per pre-established clinical criteria, which brings doctors a holistic view of the possible treatments and actuation lines for each patient.

Cloud Applications for SMART Cars

This project is run by partner CCG and executed in the period 2015 - 2018. The aim of the project is to develop a new architecture and a new development process of cloud-based applications for smart cars, along with the development of three prototype applications that cover infotainment services in the context of smart cities.

Cloud Applications for SMART Cars intends to develop a new line of software products, suitable to the context of SMART Cars. Therefore, a development process adapted to the needs of the Software Development Competency Centre (SDCC) of Bosch Car Multimedia Portugal, in Braga, Portugal, will be formalized and institutionalized. In order to achieve this, management strategies for software products variability, product management and portfolios management in SDCC will be defined.

MOSAIC 2B: Mobile Empowerment for the Socio-Economic Development in South Africa

Mobile empowerment based on mobile technologies allows the development and implemen-tation of new business models and new business opportunities targeting micro enterprises and their customers in developing countries like South Africa.

The goal of MOSAIC 2B is to develop and test a new framework that uses cloud-based ap-plications, innovative low-cost internet delivery mechanisms (delay tolerant networks and opportunistic communications) and affordable mobile technologies to unlock new mobile business opportunities, especially in rural villages. A consortium of European and South African partners builds upon the use case of mobile digital cinemas to run real life experiments demonstrating and evaluating the technological and economic viability of according innovations.

In essence MOSAIC 2B delivers a combination of mobile digital cinemas for edutainment (educational content and entertainment), mobile business and consumer services as well as visual analytics and interactive tools to obtain real-time knowledge of on-going processes, to support decision making, and to increase business opportunities. Ultimately the business case of South African micro entrepreneurs delivering edutainment to rural consumers serves as a showcase for broad based economic activities at the bottom of the economic pyramid in the developing world. Adapted innovative services at affordable cost offer sustainable access to new markets on a global scale to the benefit of underserviced populations, local and European service providers.
